LUCE
After a profound observation through multiple walks through the neighborhood over a period of several months, the artist discovers two places that are highly symbolic of the neglect and institutional abandonment suffered by San Cristóbal, and proceeds to intervene them through text, in a subtle and respectful way with the context.
DESDE SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LOS ÁNGELES / From San Cristóbal de los Ángeles
First of all, Luce comes across some iron rods which serve as retaining measures for a concrete wall. These rods should have been cut at the end of the work, but they were not, and were left protruding from the wall, twisted in many cases. A beautiful gesture of slovenliness: short strokes pointing in all directions which, together with the rust, the vegetation or a football goal drawn on the wall... made it a good corner.
Based on these elements, the artist decided to create letters of the same diameter as the rods and install them welded onto them. Specifically, the words are all prepositions in Spanish (a, ante, cabe, con, desde...) and the name of San Cristóbal de los Ángeles, in an act of positioning the neighborhood in a positive and poetic way, and of transmitting in a plural way everything that happens there. This intervention was carried out with the invaluable collaboration of the artist Lebrel.
ESPACIO EN BLANCO / Blank Space
The second discovery Luce made was a billboard that used to announce the works taking place on a nearby building, which we assume were carried out a long time ago, since the letters and content were barely visible: the sun and the passage of time had caused them to fade.
Luce decided to continue writing, in a way, also in this intervention, something that is clearly linked to his line of work, possibly stemming from his connection with graffiti. On an equal footing with the fence, he wrote on it, drilling a series of short phrases with different references: "Blank spaces", "Getting here", "SC de los Ángeles", "Between roads". Its reading is so subtle that it depends on the incidence of light on the back of the billboard: the time of day and the position of the person in front of the billboard condition the appreciation of the intervention, even achieving, at a certain moment, an effect of reflection of the words on the surface of the body of a person or an object.
Once again, the artist's attentive and subtle gaze transforms these abandoned spaces into poetic places.
